"In a world that's much too dark". That´s a part of the lyrics for Guns N´ Roses song "You're Crazy". But those words actually fits pretty well for Mimimi Productions platform/action game "The Last Tinker". Because even though the game are really colorful, and host many lovable NPC characters.
It´s quite obvious that The Last Tinker tries to put some light over some real life problems (such as racism and all the wars that´s taking place in the world right now). Because somethings really wrong in the world of The Last Tinker.
Before people (and creatures) of all colors came along, and respected one and another. But once you get into the shoes of Kuro (the main character of The Last Tinker). You will soon realize that there´s something really dark and evil, that lures beneath all the cuteness and colorful settings in the Last Tinker.
Koru have friends of all colors and shapes.
And without spoiling it for everyone else. I can say this much though. It´s your job to make everything alright again. That´s not how The Last Tinker kicks off though. There will be this kind of "tutorial" kind of gameplay at the very start (you get to know Kuro and his abilities better).
I had no problem with that (whatsoever). But it feelt like you had this training wheels attatched to Kuro from begining to end. So if you are a really experienced platform player. Then it´s very likely that you will find The Last Tinker to be way to easy (It´s very suitable for younger kids though).
I still love the Zelda, Jak and Daxter and Viva Pinata vibes though. And the colorful world of The Last Tinker. But sadly enough, The Last Tinker tripped on the goal line. Because there´s a handfull of things that made me lower the final rating for the game.
The three biggest flaws would be that The Last Tinker ain´t that challenging, and sometimes it feelt like you just walked from point A to B. And finally, you can´t jump when you feel like it (the game does it for you at scripted parts of the game).
But i would still recommend people to give The Last Tinker a try. Because it will offer a gameplay experience out of the ordinary.
Pros:
+ Beautiful graphics
+ Super nice Zelda and Jak and Daxter vibes
+ A very colorful world
+ Positive in-game messages
Cons:
- Sometimes it feels like you´re on a train
- Auto jump, you can´t jump when you feel like it
- Not very challenging
Gameplay: 3.5/5

Replay value: 3.5/5
Verdict: 3.5/5
The Last Tinker may not be THE best platform game ever made. But it sure is one of the very best platform games so far this year. And it´s with no doubt (Whatsoever) the most colorful one as well. Feel the love people!
